Spider Bite Treatment: What NOT to Do?
Of course, when a person gets bitten by a huge spider, he or she usually panics. This is what you should avoid. Remember: minor, very minor amount of cases results into death or serious injuries, because today there are anti-venoms for all kinds of accidents. If you decided to organize spider bite treatment at home, you should never do the following:
- Leave the bite without attention.
- Give aspirin to people younger than 18.
- Take antibiotics without consulting a doctor.
- Let spider go without identifying it.
- Scratch an affected area.
- Apply bandage without disinfection.

Basic Rules of First Aid
- Cleanse the area with soap and tap water.
- An ice pack (or cubes wrapped in a cloth) will relieve inflammation.
- Add three teaspoons of water to 1 baking soda teaspoon, mix all that and put on a cotton ball. Put in on a bite. After such a compress (5-10 minutes), cleanse the wound. That procedure reduces concentration of venom. If needed, repeat it in a few hours.
- Wash the wound, sprinkle usual salt on a wet bandana, and wrap it around the affected zone. Put off when it dries out. You can perform this procedure 1-3 times a day.
- Activated charcoal paste will absorb toxins. The procedure can be done every three hours in the first day. Charcoal capsules may also help.
- Another great product for house spider bites treatment is potato. It will sooth irritation. Just grate 1 potato into shreds, put them onto a wet cloth, and put on a wound. When potato begins to dry, reapply the compress if necessary.
- Venom can also be neutralized with the help of aspirin. Soak it warm water, make paste, and leave for 2 hours. If necessary, repeat the procedure.

How to Treat Bites of Venomous Spiders
If you identified that the spider that has bitten you is a venomous one, you should act quickly to promote better healing.
Black Widow or Brown Recluse
To provide proper treatment, you should immediately contact a doctor. Better call emergency, and don’t move a lot to slow venom diffusion down. Clean the area with cold water and put an icepack to reduce inflammation. If a leg or an arm were bitten, you can tie a snug bandage to resist venom spreading. But be careful so as not to cut blood circulation off!
Brazilian Wandering Spider
In this case, infected spider bite treatment should also be fast, because this is the most poisonous spider on Earth. It is crucial to get medical help as soon as possible, especially for children – a person will be provided with strong anti-venom, so deaths in this case are rare. While you are waiting for emergency, wash an affected body part with warm tap water and soap to prevent infection. Make a warm compress: it increases blood flow and reduces blood pressure. If a leg or an arm was bitten, keep it elevated to slow down venom spreading, try to move as little as possible.
